In 2016, I attempted my first triathlon because I thought it would be a fun new challenge. I was by no means a swimmer or cyclist, however was in pretty good shape. I always enjoyed running and had two half marathons under my belt.

Over the course of the Summer, my training ramped up…I bought a bike, joined a swim group and went for numerous rides. When triathlon day arrived, I knew I was ready. However, after the swim my legs cramped up and pain set-in for the remainder of the race. I knew I had to train better, but wasn’t sure what that looked like yet…

My girlfriend had gone to CYKL and saw a program for Winter Based Training and recommended it to me. I went to one CYKL class, was hooked and signed up for the program.

The classes pushed me, they were fun and intense. I knew the classes would make me a better cyclist, but I never expected how much better I’d be at running and swimming. I have experienced personal bests in running and swimming and my fitness has never been better!

CYKL has made me a better runner and athlete and I’m forever grateful to Kim and the instructors for helping me achieve my goals!

Rider of the Week!

Our friend Annie Gaudreault was the first guest speaker for the Winter Base Training crew this past Saturday and Sunday. While our riders warmed up their legs, Annie spoke about how to set reasonable and attainable goals for 2015.

Also how to find the energy (tips for finding more energy) to help achieve these goals throughout the year. Of course, every WBTP rider was encouraged (forced as well by Emily and Jen) to write at least 1 goals they wanted to achieve in the Winter Base Training Program! We’ll be posting the goals at the studio for all to see! So, take a look at them and we hope you find the inspiration to write your own 2015 fitness goals down!

Good bye 2014! HELLO 2015! CYKL rocked out an awesome year, and of course we couldn’t have done it without YOU! We can’t say it enough – THANK YOU for always bringing your fantastic energy and hard work to CYKL. We have the best riders and community in the city!

By popular demand The CYKL Winter Base Training is back and available online for purchase TODAY!!

What is it? The CYKL Winter Base Training Program is a 12 week periodization program, designed by Kim Donnelly. It begins by going back to the basics – concentrating on form, function and technique on the bike. Sessions start at around 90 mins (and grow to 2+ hours), focusing on building up your aerobic and muscular endurance over the course of 12 weeks.
Who is this program for? This program is perfect for cyclists looking to hit the 2015 season fresh and ready, for runners looking to use cycling as a great cross training tool throughout the winter, as well as riders who feel like they’ve plateaued in their exercise regime. All levels and abilities welcome!
What does it include? On top of 12 weekly sessions, this program also includes a series of guest speakers and experts who will come and chat at our sessions. We cover a variety of topics from nutrition to stretching. You must have a working heart rate monitor for this program. CYKL sells Polar Heart Rate Monitors and straps at an extra cost.
When are the weekly sessions? We have 2 options for you to choose from! Saturdays at 7am with Jen OR Sundays at 12pm with Kim.
